Intro to Research & Research Proposal

Course Description

This course is a continuation of Introduction to Research offered to the BSPT students. This is a two unit course which involves 6 hours of field work that deals with the actual implementation and presentation of research as it involves the gathering, presentation, and interpretation of data. The students at this point should have an approved research proposal and are ready for implementation. The primary focus is placed on developing skills of the students in research writing. Supplemental discussion of additional research topics will be given to the students via online method

Course General Objectives

After the end of the Semester, the students will able to:

  1. Identify appropriate research designs in their respective area of study in Rehabilitation medicine or Physical Therapy
  2. Determine the most appropriate statistical tool for treating raw data and analyze its meaning.
  3. Recommend and conduct further research studies in the field of Physical Therapy
  4. Apply the research strategies to improve research studies in Physical Therapy


Course Requirements

  1. Each group shall conduct a study and construct a detailed plan of research.
  2. In-class activities will involve participants in writing, correlating and discussing research formats and shall be used for small group participation, information exchange, collaborations and discussions.
  3. Prior knowledge of the student is expected. Hence, no student shall be without initial preparation prior to in-house activities. Information of their studies and its facts from primary secondary sources are presented.

The students will be oriented with the use of the online class ( Lormaedu20.org)

 

Instructor shall discuss  course description, course objectives,  requirements , course outline and grading system

 

Presentation  of syllabus  using lecture  and open forum

 

The students will enroll in the online class and have hands on experience using the different tools of the online class such as posting messages and assignments, using forum and chat and browsing lessons.

Review of  Research proposal and design

At the end of the topic ,  the student should be able to:

 

  1. discuss  the parts of the research proposal
  2. finalize Chapter  I of their research proposals and submit    a written output
  3. present their proposals  to the teacher

  1. Discuss the statistical tools, sampling, data collection procedures and tools used in their studies.
  2. Construct ,  revise and finalize their  Chapter II ( Methodology)
  3. Write the Bibliography of their research proposal correctly
  4. Present their research proposals to a panel.

Data Gathering  preparations

The students should  are  now ready for their research implementation

 

1. The students should get the final approval   of their data gathering tool from their teacher.

 

2.  The students  should also prepare the communication and  get approval from authorities pertaining to their  data gathering

 

3. Reproduction/ preparation of  data gathering tools

 

 

 After the review and presentation of Prelim grades to the students, there will be NO actual classroom meeting, instead consultation will be conducted on a face to face basis or through the online class using the group activity tool.

The students at this time should be gathering data from their respondents / subjects.

 

 

No actual class room meeting, students may make appointment with their teacher for consultation.

 

The online class   through its forum / group activity tools will be utilized for additional and supplementary topics and for monitoring progress of students and for consultation.
